The United States, a once glorious and powerful nation, one that may have had the very blessings of God, now sits tittering on the brink of total destruction. Yes, even on the eve of the coming of the messiah, ah, I mean President elect Obama taking office; we titter and still may yet tumble into the abyss of history’s garbage dump. Does this sound hopeful to you?
Prior to the 1992 election, the democrats began a barrage of announcements that the country was in a recession. Then President Bush did not recognize a rescission. Partly because the nation wasn’t in a recession at the time. However, by election time the nation was indeed in a recession. Some might attribute the recession to the democrats steady drumbeat that went from announcing a recession to stating that the economic recession was as bad as the great depression.
Does that sound familiar to you? During this past election, the democrats again began the steady drumbeat of recession announcements, and again used the phrase, “Great Depression.” Yet, only now, depending on the fourth quarters GDP numbers, might we actually be in a recession. One democrat said six month ago, if you feel like it is a recession then it is a recession. What bull hockey is that? Some speculate that when elected officials begin to beat the drums and use the R word, some people clamp their wallets shut. As this steady drumbeat, beats on, more people begin to reduce their spending out of fear. The result is a psychological recession that overtime leads to a real recession.
The constant use of the words “Great Depression,” for one thing, isn’t even close to true, for another thing, scares the pants off of some people. Yes, the housing bubble popped and has caused great harm to the economy, and yes, we probably are in a recession, but is it a good thing for politicians to use it to scare voters for political gain? Has it helped us?
Nonetheless, here we are, we must ask, will history repeat its self? So far, it is repeating its self. Bush and now the democrats are doing exactly what Roosevelt did and that only pushed the economy over the edge. All the while, others are eagerly wringing their hands in wanton anticipation; crisis allows for governmental takeovers of certain private industries that some have wanted to socialize for years. Fear has always been the number one motivator in leading countries astray.
Are you afraid? You should be…you should be afraid of selling off your liberty and freedom for a loaf of bread, for a mortgage payment, for a tank of gas. Like the Romans who went before us, we have become fat materialistic lazy people. Soon, China and India will overtake us as the world’s superpowers. Your children or grandchildren will sip tea or coffee comfortably in some outdoor café, no worries, people better than we are, will then control the world’s fate. Therefore, in truth we are not tittering on the brink of destruction, just a metamorphosis, changing to a new creature, as Che Guevara, that great communist revolutionary put it, a new man.
